Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, Mathieu van der Poel, Lotte Kopecky, and other contenders were unveiled as 2024 Velo d’Or candidates!
The Velo d’Or is an annual award given to some of the top cyclists in the world, recognizing their achievements over the past year. By the end of October, the results of the vote, conducted by a panel of distinguished journalists, will reveal who has earned this prestigious honor for 2024. This award celebrates excellence in both men’s and women’s cycling, recognizing the standout performers of the year.
In the men’s category, there is little doubt about who the favorite is. Tadej Pogačar is widely expected to dominate the voting process. His remarkable season, which includes victories in two monuments, two Grand Tours, a World Championship title, and more than two dozen World Tour race wins, has put him in a league of his own. Pogačar also earned more than double the UCI points of his closest competitor, Remco Evenepoel, solidifying his status as the likely frontrunner for the award.
Other top cyclists like Mathieu van der Poel, Jonas Vingegaard, Primož Roglič, and other notable performers from the season will be considered in the voting, but Pogačar’s stellar accomplishments make him the overwhelming favorite to take home the 2024 Velo d’Or.
