So far this season, the relationship between Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has raised eyebrows, with several moments on the sideline drawing attention. In Week 3, during a disappointing loss to the Baltimore Ravens, tensions between the two surfaced after a failed offensive series. Lamb appeared visibly upset, and Prescott, instead of addressing the situation, walked away from the star receiver. The incident sparked speculation about trouble brewing between the two key players.
By Week 4, however, Lamb took it upon himself to address the incident with the media. He accepted responsibility for his actions and promised to do better moving forward. When the Cowboys managed a 20-15 victory over the New York Giants on “Thursday Night Football,” it seemed like the controversy had blown over. Lamb had a strong performance in the game, racking up 98 receiving yards and scoring a touchdown, which put fans at ease for a while.
However, the tranquility was short-lived. During the Week 5 “Sunday Night Football” matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the tension resurfaced. After Prescott threw an interception on a pass intended for Lamb, the receiver was seen approaching his quarterback on the sidelines, appearing to voice his frustration once again. While the Cowboys won the game 20-17, Lamb’s performance was less remarkable, with only 62 receiving yards. This renewed rumors about the growing discord between Prescott and Lamb.
Despite the public speculation, both Lamb and Cowboys fans were quick to dispel any notion of a rift. On October 10, during a media day, Lamb was asked about the heated sideline exchange. He clarified that what people saw wasn’t an argument but rather a conversation about the play. Lamb explained that he had wanted a “jump ball” on the play, but Prescott opted for a back-shoulder pass instead, leading to the interception. Lamb’s intention was merely to give Prescott feedback for future red-zone opportunities.
Although the start of the season has not been as explosive as some might have hoped for Lamb, the receiver has shown growth and leadership on and off the field. Even in Week 5, when he wasn’t as heavily involved in the passing game, Lamb contributed in other ways, such as blocking and drawing extra coverage, which helped open up opportunities for his teammates.
So far this season, Lamb has recorded 25 receptions for 378 yards and two touchdowns. As the Cowboys head into Week 6 to face the Detroit Lions, fans will be hoping for another standout performance from Lamb, especially considering that the last time he played against the Lions, he had a career-high 227 receiving yards and a touchdown.
